mbogobutchLarry,
This the complete opposite to me. I have never had any problems flying East, but coming back home(flying West),hammers me.Coming back from Tanz this last Dec.it took me at least 5 days to feel have way right. Must just be me, who knows.

MJinesDitto, I generally have much more of an issue going East to West than I do going West to East. I always attributed in part to the fact that going to West to East I was generally going somewhere to hunt . . . going East to West I was coming home.

DonW28I tend to be better going west. But I think that is because most of my travel east (outside hunting trips) is for inside business. Coming west I'm outside all day when I get back home. I've always thought that exposure to sunlight is the best cure for jetlag regardless of which way you travel. Plus Ambien.

Bill/OregonMaking a grimly determined effort to hydrate or even overhydrate has really helped me.

BuffHunter63Using an old Army trick, I put myself on destination time as soon as I start across the pond (east or west). As soon as it is around mid-night destination time and provided the meals are finished, I take a couple of sleeping pills and try to catch some shut eye.
Once I land at my destination, I try and stay awake during the daylight hours and then sleep at night. Within one or two nights, I am generally totally acclimated. My wife, on the other hand, stays awake until she gets really sleepy and then goes to sleep. It takes her weeks to acclimatize when we travel to Southeast Asia.

Brian CanadaI have had a hell of a time with Jetlag. Ended up in hospital once in Port Elizabeth and in a private clinic once in Joburg. On my first cape buffalo hunt I was staggering along thorugh though the bush like a zombie.
Then I learned about electrolytes. You get little packages of it in powdered form from a health food store. Pour the pkg. into your bottle of water and sip away while you fly. That ended my jet lag problems.
I later told friends about this great discovery and each one said, "Oh, I have know about that for years!" Go figure. Brian

LabmanI do the same thing as Buffhunter. I normally do have some trouble sleeping the first day or two after arriving in Africa. The first night I take a sleeping pill (Ambien) and the second night I take one half a pill. After that I'm good to go.

CharlesLGoing East I start getting up a couple hours earlier for about a week. On the travel day I get up even earlier. This way I am tired on the flight and take ambien to get some sleep. Once I am there I drink lots of water and minimize the alcohol for the first couple days. It is also the reason I like to spend a few days touring and not hunt until the third day. On the return it is no big thing that I am up early and getting to bed early.

I jet lag for a living. I just stay up for impossible hours on the first day and then take a sleeping pill for the first night. After that it gets me right on schedule.

Brian CanadaHere is a Jet lag product that I am going to try next trip to Africa. It's an electrolyte/ alkalizer that you add to water and the formula is made and marketed by an entrepreneurial airline stewardess in Shefield MA Ph. 888 217 7233
It's called Electro Blast Water Revitalizer. Google it. Brian

I just got back from Zambia yesterday. I'm usually fine on overseas travel, but this time I slept probably 14 hours on getting home.
