bobcAny problems traveling through Heathrow with guns?
I'm close to finalizing a trip to SA in June. Any problems in flying through London Heathrow, without a long layover? I'd be flying Houston via Continental to LHR, then on to Johannesberg via SAA. Can you check guns through all the way? Bob

shakariYou need to check with your travel agent that you don't need to change airports (you shouldn't, but check anyway) and ask what the layover time is. Also ensure that the travel agent puts the comment ' travelling with SPORTING firearms' into the comments section of your booking AND get a printed copy of that booking to take with you when you travel.
Your travel agent should be able to advise you on everything you need to do. - That's what you pay them for.

WandererI did it in October, wasn't a problem. My travel agent had done as Shakari recommended and I followed up myself just to make sure.

MARK H. YOUNGbobc,
I've flown through London now 8 times with no problem. As Shakari suggested if your travel agent has done their home work you'll have no trouble and you can check your guns straight through. The airlines do need to have a baggage transfer agreement.

bobcThanks. I had a preliminary conversation with Gracy about the trip and Shawn was quite negative about going through London with a gun. I was interested to see if others have had any bad experiences. This would be without changing airports and a less than 12 hour layover, changing from Continental to SAA. Bob
