Departing Denver with brother, 2 Sept for Windhoek, via Frankfurt. Denver to Frankfurt is Lufthansa #447. Frankfurt to Windhoek is Air Namibia #286. Day room at Frankfurt airport. Happy to pick up the tab for a cold one or two along the way. Anyone else with the same itinerary?

I did that route in May with no problems. You may want to consider the Holiday Inn Express as it's a bunch cheaper. Theres a great Italian Resturant a short walk away.

Did same route from NJ .Had all night flights slept like a baby. I arrived in Africa with no Lag at all. I wiuld fly both Airlines again.

To each his own, but I think that getting a day room in Frankfurt is a mistake. We took flights with similar times in June and instead of holing up in a day room and keeping your internal clock out of whack, we took the train downtown and ate lunch, shopped, and drank some of that great German beer. When we departed on Air Namibia at 10:30 that night we were tired enough (and on the right time cycle) to largely ignore the hard seats. Arriving at dawn in Namibia, it felt like . . . dawn in Namibia, and we had no issues with jet lag during the entire hunt.

Coming home is a different story and there's no way to cope with it other than allowing an extra day after you get home for "recovery".

I have to agree with Stonecreek here. I just started doing my "due diligence" for next April and came up with a (very preliminary) plan very similar to what Stonecreek outlined. I also agree with the issue of time cycle adjustment.

I for one would never make that trip without getting a day room. Unless you are one that can get a full night's sleep during the flight, a day room is the ticket. I was a zombie for two days after ariving in Windhoek on my first trip. On my second, I took a couple hour nap, had a shower and had a good meal at a hotel near the Frankfurt airport. I then slept the best I could on the flight down to Windhoek and was in much better shape when I arrived. A little nap that afternoon and I was good to go.

Looks like I will miss you by a day. I leave San Diego for Namibia on Sept 3rd. Flying through Frankfurt on the way out and London on the way back.
