I have a web site that, for me, is a fun project since I enjoy web design and going on hunting trips to Africa.

Recently I added to the site a “resource guide†with links to African hunting information. I hope one day that page will be a one-stop shopping zone for African hunting info. Anyone with good ideas for online links please let me know. I don’t copy or write the articles, I just provide links to them creating a single place to visit for all information a person who is tired of Googling might be looking for. For years I kept several folders of categorized web sites in my Internet browser favorites list. Although they were organized together up in the favorites, I find that I prefer all of the direct links available on one web page.

Any suggestions for additions?

I also added a trip checklist accessible on the following page http://www.brewersafrica.com/tripplanning Click on the clipboard near the top right to downloaded the checklist. It can be printed after downloaded. I was hoping the community of hunters frequenting this site would be willing to help me with the checklist. The list works fairly will for me thus far, but it seems each year I arrive in Africa discovering one more thing I wish I’d brought. My goals with the are:
-I want to keep it as a single page
-I want to be sure the most crucial items are on the list (they may not all be at the moment)
-I want to be sure items that reduce or prevent major and minor travel annoyances are also on the list

This morning I read the 2005 post by T. Carr regarding a packing list. Very detailed and comprehensive but I don’t have that kind of space to work with. Space is limited on a single sheet of paper. I can reduce the font several sizes and the list will still be legible. That means there is still room for more.

What would you add?

What would you get rid of?

I use this list and it seems to morph a little each year. Anyone else who wants to use it is welcome to it. Ideas, suggestions? I can update the list, create a new pdf version of it and put it on the site. I just want it to be the best it can be. My husband’s African hunting experience is limited to Zimbabwe, Namibia and South Africa. Mine is limited to Namibia and South Africa. I’m sure there are items of necessity for other countries to which we have not yet been.

You know I just thought of something that is probably on a lot of "to take" lists but should be on all on them in my experience and that is some kind of allergy control pill. Whether it is Benadryl or whatever.

I was shooting doves in South Africa a few years back and my PH was nice enough to point out this flowering plant/weed (can't remember it's name, cursed may it be, but I'm sure someone will.....wait, maybe it was called the Khaki plant....supposedly brought over from India by the English in hay for their horses during the Boer wars) that had an odd and somewhat interesting pungent odor. I'm not particularly allergic to anything but, not using my best judgement, I went over and took a big sniff. Wow....nearly instant giant allergy attack.....we had to go back into town and get some pills.....luckily they worked and we weren't that far from civilization. But I'd HIGHLY recommend that all hunters take some anti-allergens even if they're not normally a victim of "hay" fever. If that happens out in the boonies, the victim will be really miserable I can assure you.

Thanks to all who have reviewed and helped me with this project. The PMs were helpful. I will continue working to improve the trip checklist and maybe the next time I go to Africa I’ll have everything I need with me. (Maybe.)

My resource guide of links is a long term project that will take years to grow as I discover more sites of interest or usefulness to add. And I won't get my panties in a wad over "hunting" like that other Africa internet guide.

I've read your list, looks good. I've posted this in other places but you might consider adding a couple of things.....

First, if anyone is a serious coffee drinker, they need to take their favorite brand with them, very very few Arikaners understand coffee and even fewer have real coffee and can make a decent cup. In my case that's Community Dark Roast. I take enough to roughly last the trip.

Second, you might suggest that traveler's look into purchasing some type of med travel insurance such as medjet (there are others as well) which will get you home or to the nearest decent hospital if you have any medical problems on your trip. The cost is relatively low and it can be a true lifesaver if you need it.

One thing you might add if your are hunting in hot area is DIAPER RASH OINTMENT, a person who perspires a lot can get heat rash, the ointment works really well.
