Firearms insurance.
My homeowners insurance is not an option, and the two rifles I will be taking are worth about 10k together with scopes. Where is the best place to get firearms insurance?

+1
They've always seemed easy to deal with, add/delete what and when you want, etc. I also have not had to file a claim, but I believe I've read some positive feed back on AR about timeliness in paying on claims.
I contacted the agency that DSC endorses, 'can't remember the name, but they wanted to insure my entire collection, kind of "you have to fit our business model, gotta do it our way" type attitude. Life's too short for that crap.

Equinsu OchaGlad this was posted.. I was going to ask the same.. I've never taken any type of ins out on my guns when going to Africa before..
On my Oct trip, I am taking my Chapuis 470 and my Win 375.. While they my not be worth much to some, they're damn sure worth a healthy sum to me.. I'd sure hate for that lowly beavertail fore-end to get broken!!
Thanks for the recomendation, gents. I'll be gathering quotes very soon.

leo toralballaTry these folk:
http://historicfirearms.com/Like most other posters, I've never had a claim. However, their rates are pretty reasonable, like $3.50 per $1,000 of insured value on my last year's policy, where some ask over $10 and homeowner adds can be over $20.
They are happy with expensive guns, although they will require an appraisal for over $10K, I think.

Chris LozanoBe sure that the one you pick will cover you when you leave the US. Not all do. Siai.net does cover you anywhere.

Michael RobinsonYou SIA guys have got to check out Core-Vens.
They offer much easier up front underwriting (although you will need to document any loss - God forbid - in the usual detail) and also, far more reasonable premiums.
I moved my business from SIA to Core-Vens earlier this year.

surestrikeI've had bad luck with SIA. As in not paying a very obvious claim.
I went to collectors but am looking elsewhere now as they are a bit of a pain. I'll try Core Vens next.

Terry BlauwkampI've had the opposite experiance with SIAI... as I've had two claims in 3 years, and they never hesitated to pay.

Idaho Sharpshooterhmmmm, my insurance agent got it in writing for me that any personal property, including firearms are covered to the limits of my policy. Like sixty-thousand bucks a year for $120.

Mad DogMy homeowners covered my rifles, in 2008, when I went to RSA. Yes, I had it in writing.

Rich, unendorsed Homeowners policies do cover personal property to the limit of your policy. However, guns, jewelry and other items have sub limits for theft. Usually 500 for trinkets and 1000 for guns. "Lost in transit" is usually considered theft, so be careful if you depend on your homeowners. A gun floater is one method to fix this problem-a seperate gun policy is another.

archer_375Rich...I am in the insurance business. I have never seen a policy that will include "theft" of firearms to the personal property limit. Specifically ask the agent if there is a Special Limit for the Theft of Firearms. You may have the full limit for several perils but I be willing to bet theft is not one of those perils. If your company does it...Kudos to them. Would be a first in my experience.
Here are your options with MOST carriers:
1.- Put "Special Perils" coverage on personal property and increase the Special Limit for Theft of Firearms to at least $10,000. Make sure your contents are then covered Worldwide. (might be a stretch for most companies)
2. - Add an Inland Marine Floater to your homeowners polciy on your guns you want covered, listing Make, Model, Serial Number and Value along with the "related" equipment. (scopes, mags. ect.) Make sure this floater covers the guns Worldwide.
3. - Buy a separate policy for your guns through NRA, SCI or Core-Vens. This is the option I would recommend to the traveling sportsman. These outfits know what they are doing when it comes to guns AND a loss does not jeopardize your homeowners coverage.

DuggaBoyeAny one seen a policy that would cover an
antique rifle that will be brought into the US
by the owner from Europe,
while in transit on the airline.
(Value greater than the previously mentioned $10,000.00)
(He is a US citizen living abroad ,
returning home with his Father's rifle he took
with him 30+ years ago when he moved.)
