Easy question on luggage:=)
How come you guys are able to bring 2 weapons on your trips! When I book airfae, the maximum luggage weight is 23 kg! after all the accesories needed for hunting is packed i am usually left with 5-6 kg!That only include one (1) weapon!! To the question: does your airlines consider weapons as sporting gear or do you pay for extra luggage ? Is eporting gear free?

Not sure if all airlines classify rifle cases the same are not. I have taken 2 different airlines over to Africa and never had any problems are charged extra. Rifle case when I flew Delta did have to be less than 50lb. to not get charged.

Flights from the US often allow more weight than from places like Australia.
With two rifles and a bare minimum of Kit I am always over the 21kg allowance (by nearly 10kgs).

open a can of worms OK lets see from usa to africa weight depends on what airlines your using. so say 25kilos some say 50 kilos. some say if it sporting equipment 70 kilos take your pick. some have length restriction on baggage ie NO fishing gear longer than X length. good luck on figuring out who or what applied today. because it will change tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You need to maximize the weight you carry on your body even if you sweat a bit temporarily and need to maximize what you put in your carryon bag. Once you get in the airplane, remove the stuff from your person and put it in your carryon bag if you like. You also get a personal item which can be a man purse or a camera; take advantage of that as well.

Also, at least one of my two weapons has been a handgun so weight is a bit less.

I have found that a lot of carriers are checking hand luggage weight now.

So what if you get charged. You are paying 20K for the safari, whats another $100?

Try around $500. Not sure about you but I'd rather put that in a Hyena or tips.

Most airlines have not weighed or cared about the weight of my gun case. I'm not sure if it's just exempt from the weight restrictions of other baggage or what.

Two days ago I flew from Vancouver to Port Hardy in BC on a little airline called "Pacific Coastal." They charged me $65 for excess weight for my gun case with three rifles in it. I believe that's the first time I've ever paid extra for a gun case.

Last summer I spent July in New Zealand and Australia but didn't take any guns because I didn't want the hassle of dealing with V Australia and Quantas (my air carriers) with all the flights I had lined up. Just not worth it. I used the outfitters rifles (first time I've ever done that) and had no problems whatsoever.
