Cape Town and Garden Route
Hey folks!

I am looking for a hunter friendly place to stay for a couple days in Cape Town next spring. I don't need to spend a ton of money...in fact a nice B&B would be just fine. My wife and I will be doing the tourist thing for a couple days before hunting.

Also...my wife and I will be driving from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth...any nice places to stay the night half way? Again...no 5 star resorts, just someplace nice.

Thanks!

Best to do an internet search on accommodation in the Garden Route. Do not hesitate to ask if they can store firearms as it is more common than you may think.

My family and I stayed at the Berg En Zee Guest House in Gordon's Bay. It was very nice and the staff was great. I kept my rifle in the room. Gordon's Bay is a bit south of Cape Town and on False Bay.

30+ years experience tells me that perfection hit at .264. Others are adequate but anything before or after is wishful thinking.

It's 755 km on the N2 and Mossel Bay looks to be about half way and is a spectacular place. Suggest you go to tripadvisor.com and see what's what.

Thanks folks...I appreciate the responses so far! I've hunted up North a few times, but this is our first trip to the coast/East Cape so we are looking forward to it.

My son and I stayed at Colona Castle a B&B in September and they are the only ones I found down toward Simons Town that had a gun safe. Easy run to the shark boats and false bay spots. Would stay there again.

Me and my wife did the same hunting-garden route tourism trip 3 years back. Awesome time. I recommend going on a great white cage snorkelling trip out of Gaansbai and a wine tasting safari in Franschoek. Two definite highlights of our trip.

Oh, and a self drive through Addo NP outside PE was also quite cool. The animals don't run away as quickly there..,

Back in 2003, after a Zambian hunt. My wife and Daughter spent two weeks driving around RSA. Spent about 4 days in the Jo'burg area, then flew down to Cape Town. First two days, drove into Capetown and stayed at the Jambo House in the Greenpoint neighborhood. About a mile from the inter harbor and downtown. Which we would walk. They thought we were nuts to walk that far. Went fine. I hear that the neighbor hood is even more pedestrian friendly since world cup times. The owners were not hunters, but were totally supportive of our hobby. We then drove up the garden route back via the little Karoo and wine country.

Nice! Yea, we are really looking forward to visiting that part of the country. Planning the trip has been a lot of fun so far.

Sir,
Please drop me a pm, and I will be happy to forward the itinerary that we can recommend. We quite often hosts hunters that do the self drive from Port Elizabeth to Cape Town, and have set out a "nice places to see" package.
