SAA would consider easing hunting trophy ban
South African Airways would consider easing a ban on transporting animal-hunt heads and carcasses on its aircraft and is discussing the matter with government officials and industry groups, a spokesman said on Tuesday.
“We are looking at various options,” SAA spokesman Tlali Tlali said. The decision was made “purely for operational reasons” and isn’t permanent, he said.
SAA banned customers from transporting rhino, elephant, and lion bodies earlier this year. The Professional Hunters’ Association of South Africa said this month it was negotiating with the airline to reverse the ban, arguing that it hurts the country’s conservation efforts and runs contrary to international law.
