pacecarsThermacell
Can the butane cartridges for a Thermacell be carried in your luggage? If not are they available in Africa?

buckeyeshooterthat is the problem with it

It works great-- have to mail the cartridges ahead.

shakariIf you mail them ahead you need to label them as Hazmat/surface mail only..... but they might possibly be available in RSA at least (from either a chemists or camping/4x4 etc shops)
Probably worth asking your outfitter if he can get them.
It's sometimes surprising what you can buy in RSA nowadays...... they even gaffer tape in a variety of sizes & colours.

LionHunterAccording to Thermocell a few months ago, they do not sell them anywhere in africa and they are not legal for travel in aircraft. Call them.

That's exactly why I said if the OP was going to send them, he should label it hazmat/surface mail only.
They do have similar products in RSA (at least) because I've seen them and I'd guess those versions may well fit the Thermocell product..... which I why I said it might be worth asking the outfitter.

Steve,
I've been told (but not sure if it is true) that basically the same butane canister is used for a particular type of womens curling iron. Could this be the product you are referring to?

shakariI'm not 100% sure but think that's correct..... to be honest, I didn't pay much attention to them and only noticed them in passing.
