Terry,

I'm flying with them in April to Namibia. They carry firearms and have a declaration form that has to be filled out in triplicate.

When you fill the form out, one copy goes to the ticket agent, one is supposed to be sent forward (faxed to Addi Ababa) and one goes with the rifle in the case. I've been to told to make an extra copy for your carry on. Apparently when you change flights in Addis Ababa they call you down to verify the firearm before shipping it on to your final destination.

If you want a copy of the form, PM me your email address and I'll send it to you.

This member has no positive report on Ethiopian to South Africa, Terry. The plane was a bit late getting into Addis. My wife and I got to the gate for the Ethiopian Cape Town flight as the last pax were boarding. Having read the right scoop, and done the forms as Frank outlines above, I asked where the security authorities were so I could confirm my firearms as checked baggage. The gate agent scampered around and finally came back to say I did not need to wait to confirm the firearms. As you might imagine, the firearms did not arrive with us. Fortunately, our travel agent, Barb Wolbrink in Northern Virginia, pulled out all the stops and got the guns to me before I left Cape Town for Windhoek.

I dropped my return ticket (Mileage Plus) and bought a new ticket (cheaper in the RSA) to go SAA business class from Windhoek to Joburg to Dulles...

I would never fly with them ever !
Two friends have flown them and they said it was the worst airline experience ever !
Why fly them anyway when one has the likes of Emirates etc.....

Wife and I Flew them to Tanzanian. They were great $1,200 less than Emirates for round ticket for 2 . No guns on this trip though .

The news is saying that most of the planes passengers were climate scientists, on their way to a conference in Nairobi.

My thoughts are with the families and friends of the victims of the crash.

Sobering Boing admitting after Lion Air crash that uncontrollable nose down can occur. Terrifying.
