lavacaRecomendations for hotels/restaurants in Arusha
Planning a trip to Masailand next March. Other than the stop at the airport on the way to Dar, I've never been to Arusha. Any recommendations?

lavacaThanks to you both. Your responses reminded me that I'd kind of like to spend a day or two in Pemba while I'm over there. Any thoughts there?

ozhunterThe Coffee Plantation Lodge is nicly situated just out of town close to Arusha Airport but not sure of the rates.
Which Pemba, Moz or Tanz?

415sbairdIn October 2008, we stayed at the Arusha Hotel. It was great to get rid of the jet lag there for a couple of nights. Real clean and comfortable. A traditional hotel with good food and it's own water system.
We met the PH's at the Coffee Lodge and had a couple of meals there. It was real nice, too.

bwanamrmIt was way back in 2003 when I stayed there... we did the Impala Hotel. I would rate it as just OK... there has to be something better in Arusha.
On the plains of hesitation lie the bleached bones of ten thousand, who on the dawn of victory lay down their weary heads resting, and there resting, died.

And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!

MARK H. YOUNGLavaca,
Our folks stay at the Mount Meru Game Reserve. You'd be very happy there I'm sure. Colonial atmosphere, great food and service.

larryshoresThe Coffee Lodge is very nice. It is not your typical hotel. Food was fantastic. It is very close to the airport from which charters leave.
The Arusha Hotel is a nice hotel. It is more of a hotel that the Coffee Lodge. It is right in the middle of town. Lots of people around which is a huge negative to me.
Personally, I would pick the Coffee Lodge before the Arusha Hotel.

jetdrvrI've stayed at both the Mt. Meru and the Arusha Hotel. The Mt. Meru is quaint, but for comfort and good food, I would recommend the Arusha Hotel. Good breakfast buffet when I was last there, which was August 2009.
I think some PH's stay at the Coffee Lodge occasionally. Never been there, so I can't comment, but the Arusha Hotel was very comfortable and clean. It's in the middle of town, but you're not going to be doing much except sleeping and eating anyway and they have great Internet and a very nice gift shop.

With a Room Rate above US$ 500.- per night how many PH can afford this ?!

shakariDon't know if it's still as good as it used to be but you used to be able to get a VERY good ruby at the Arusha Hotel.
For you philistines who don't talk Cockney rhyming slang:
Ruby = Ruby Murray = Curry.

It has little to do with cockney, more like "grampa talk."
