Emirates and Firearms
Could someone kindly let me know if Emirates are hunter/firearms friendly? Flown with them before (superb airline) and used camp rifles but going to take my rifle to Zambia and transiting through Dubai from Europe.
From what I have read on there website we have to notify the police in Dubai? any help would be greatly appreciated!

And use a travel agent familiar with firearms.

Ricky,
I travelled to the UK with Emirates for the grouse season last year.
Flew from Oz through Dubai, connected to another flight and landed in Birmingham.
No problems at all.
You just notify Emirate that you are travelling with a firearm and they take care of the transit/ Dubai police permit.
You use to have to do it separately, but it's all done now by Emirates.
They are tops in my book!

Cheers

Used Emirates last year flying from Seattle to JNB. Best experience I’ve ever had. Recommend you use a travel agent as they know all the ins and outs.

Used Emirates last year Fort Lauderdale - Dubai - Johannesburg and return. Great flight with zero issues. The paperwork is simple and painless. Prior to boarding, they always stopped us to check and inform that our firearms had been loaded.

The only thing I know about Emirate of late that's a negative is if you need to cut your safari short for some reason and leave early your guns don't travel with you. They cannot get an immediate re-authorization to carry your guns. One of Gracy Travels clients never did get his guns as far as I know.

I think it is a well known fact that Gracy’s has some deal with BA, an airline I would personally avoid at any cost!

Traveling First Class on BA through Heathrow was easily the worst trip we have had through any airline or airport.

Taking Ryan Air or Easyjet was like utter luxury compared to BA!

At a pinch, I would take any airline.

Except North Korean Airlines and Bloody Awful!

Mark:

We were delayed in South Africa due to the hurricane. Emirates notified us of the cancellation and gave a possible itenirary (pending hurricane damage). When I asked about our firearms permits and got a very rude “your problem, not ours” answer. I stated that is not acceptable and the person hung up. I immediately called back, explained our problem and how the last Emirates person handled the call. After the apologies, the problem was sorted. I received a call the next morning and an Emirates rep explained the firearms issue is resolved, no worries and the rude customer rep is no longer an Emirates employee.

Saeed I don't know where your info comes from but usually if my clients don't have a preference when they call Gracy they don't recommend BA because of the long layover in Heathrow. You fly far more than I but my on-board experiences whether coach, business or first with BA have been excellent. Perhaps my expectations are fairly low.

Mark,

You are right.

I do travel quite a lot, and do use a variety of airlines. And I do expect to get the services I actually paid for.

Comparing BA to Emirates is just like comparing a 21 day safari in Tanzania with TGT and a 21 day safari on 1,000 acre farm in South Africa.

Chalk and cheese does not even come close of a comparison.

I think you are just a tad hard on BA. I have flown lots of different airlines. In Coach the only difference I saw was the Emirates FA were much nicer, younger and more attractive. (I have flown Emirates once in coach and will never fly Emirates Long Haul coach again, unless Emirates get an Premium Eco product.) Otherwise zero difference to me. Now business, I will give Emirates the edge IF you are on an A380 again Emirates FA win over BA's. If on an B777, I prefer the BA flights because of the seating layout. Now mind you USA carriers don't come close to any other carriers. I will grant you that some budget airlines are great like Norwegian, (I just wish they went to Heathrow instead of Gatwick) BUT Ryan Air, give me a break.

My last four flights within Europe were on Lufthansa, SAS, Easyjet and Ryan air.

Lufthansa and SAS are part of the Star Alliance, which means they have a "could not careless" attitude.

First they wanted me to put my carry on bag in the hold, which I refused to do. I was travelling Business Class, and the idiots changed type of plane at the last minute.

We had a bit of a situation, but I was polite, and told then my bags comes with me or I do not fly. I have my computer and cameras in it, and it always comes with me.

They relented and let me take it on board.

Two flights on Easyjet and Ryan air went according to what they had promised.

One pays extra to pick a seat at the front. I did, and my seat was reserved for me.

Compare this to a number of occasions where I had to ask for my seat on Lufthansa because some idiot was sitting on it!!

And my hand bag came with me on board.

The attitude of the flight crew on both Ryan air and Easy jet was miles ahead of any on the Star Alliance lot.

They were very helpful, smiling, and joking all the time.
