Medical evacuation plans
On my past trips to Africa I have always used Medjet. I recently recieved some informarion from the NRA with a similar medical evacuation plan. Has anyone bought the NRA plan or had to use it Thanks.

George,

I haven't seen the NRA plan but the best I know of is the Global Rescue which you can find here:

One of the things I really like about the Global Rescue is that you can opt in or out of the scheme for evacuation in the event of things like political turmoil and earthquake etc whereas most policies will cover you for medical evacuation only.

Global Rescue is first rate. I used their services in Tanzania last year when I took a bad fall. They were all over it, keeping constant phone contact to monitor the situation and my condition. I would definitely use them again.

I would look at what you are getting, then decide.

Medjet is about $250/yr.
Global rescue without the political stuff is I think $350. The "political crisis evacuation" stuff adds even more. (this is yearly rates)

I'm not sure what the NRA plan is.

I've heard good and bad about both companies, more good than bad except on this site, where a few more people have had typical insurance hassles (noncoverage, etc) whereas in my medical practice circles, both seem to have pretty good reputations.

Overall, something is good to have for peace of mind.
