Guns and hotels
Guys, my bro and I ended up with flights that get us to Windhoek a day before the PH is scheduled to pick us up. Guess that means we go through customs with our Pelican full of rifles and haul same to our hotel for the night. How secure are the rooms, typically, or do the hotels offer safe storage for firearms? We'd like to be able to toddle off to Joe's for eats and booze and not have to worry about our rifles being swiped. Thanks for ideas. We leave the 9th of May!

I have not had a problem at three different hotels/guest houses.

But then again, I have always taken the extreme precaution of hiding my rifle cases under the bed. Wink

You should have no problems. Good luck on your safari!

I stayed at the Kalahari Sands, and they required that I check my rifle case into thier sotrage- they said it was secure and no rifles in the rooms.

Check where you are staying in advance, I am sure they have dealt with the issue before.

Mike: I'm taking the CZ 550 in 9.3X62 with Barnes 250 TSX handloads, and my brother is taking an heirloom Savage Model 99 in .300 Savage with 165-grain Partition handloads. We're going for gemsbok, kudu, warthog, and I might add an eland.

Bill,

I used 286 gr Noslers to take Impala, Warthog, Blue Wildebeast, Kudu and Zebra. 9,3x62 just works WAY better than one would expect!

Ever find the problem with 200 yard consistency?

Have a grand time!

Hey mstarling!!!

Just got back from SA and Namibia. Three of us hunting with 9.3x62mm and 9.3x64mm, and all having nothing but success. A 258 grain or 286 grain 9.3mm bullet speaks with serious authority all the way out to 250-275 yards when gravity begins to step in on the 9.3x62mm. FYI, the 9.3x64mm in our party was still cooking in excess of 300 yards.
