Would the knowledge trust share the current 4457 situation transiting through Joburg? I've been told that you can't have an expired 4457 meaning the actual print date or an actual expired date on form. I get the latter. I went May last year to CBP office and got two sets. One set had a Sept 24 expiration date in upper left corner and another set that just had in bottom left corner the form number and (actually) print date 5/22. I want to transit through Joburg (overnight) in May before a year is up for my visit to CBP.
I have been told by Gracy that it can't have an expiration date, again actually print date. If you go to CBP website the one they have on there has 6/10/24 so it would also be quote "expired".
Under this criteria it seems to me that there would be a lot of hunters not either go to or transit through Joburg this year.
I'm aware that I can go to Harare via Dubai without this issue but for other reasons I would like to overnight and transit through Joburg.

There is an PDF floating around the web of a form without an expiration date. Does not matter to SAPS they want one signed the year of travel.

I just tell my guys to get a new 4457 each time they go to Africa. That avoids any possibility of a hassle around the date on the 4457.

So, the print date by the form number can be 5/22 or 6/24, they're not looking at that ? It's the date of inspection by CBP has to be in the year you're going? Not within last 12 mos.?
I've not been able to find the undated form 4457.

The Expiration date is a byproduct of the Paperwork Reduction Act. But of course anyone in africa can decide that that the form is expired even though CBP states that the forms are good for as long as the form is legible. A paper cutter that accidentally cuts that date off would be useful, except for RSA which wants a fresh dated form.

I just cut mine out where the date is gone.....haven't had any problem

It really comes down to who you get at the office when you check in. The dated print on the forms really means nothing as I have even cut them off. They have always looked at the date mine were stamped. They like to see them with in a year period of going. I just always get new ones each year as my customs agent is very helpful. I dont even take the guns unless it is new one he just copies what I have on old form and stamps with new year to date mark

As far as myself getting new ones because of distance it's a whole day process to get done. Done it several times just a p.i.t.a.

I just got a new form last week and I took a form in that I had "whited out" and the CBP officer told me that they do the same thing and keep a bunch on hand just for the hunters going to Africa
