Gun case items/weight/charge?
If I get it... guncases are no longer free but $25.00. If that is the case can a person put more items in them till you hit 50#s ? Not ammo but other stuff? I know before you could only put your hearing protection and a few other things pertaining to your gun but if they are now considered a checked item???? Why not add weight?

You can put whatever you want in your gun case, as long as it's not ammo.

Namibia, why can't you put Ammo (in original boxes) in the lockable gun case? I just traveled to and from Africa last month,It was recommended, and I did it with no problem thru,TSA, or the Airlines (United, SAA). I had no problems, everyone that needed to check and verify the firearms serial numbers said it was fine. I use a full length "Pelican Case" like we used in the military to carry our M-4's over to Iraq. Had no problems whatso ever.....Chuck

When we went through SA in 2005 they made us take everything out except our ear protection and cleaning kit. We had knives, surefire etc. The said it was free for the firearm and case but no added items for weight. I just read TSA and they say ammo can be locked in the case but only if the airline approves.

That's a change from when I went through RSA in March. I never know from trip to trip what to expect from SAPS so I just play it safe and put my ammo in a lockable ammo box and put it into my check-in luggage. Packing ammo thru South Africa

However...I did put my ammo in with my rifles in a locked rifle case when I went through Frankfurt direct to Windhoek and it went well going and coming to the USA. I do it that way also when I fly to and from Alaska.

Same when I went in 04. I was good w/ the rifle packed in a takedown case in the bottom of my checkin leaving the US out of LAX, but on the way back, only the rifle & case. I had to check two bags then. Mad
