BA Firearms EMBARGO to ZIM!!
6 weeks before we leave to Zim for Safari. Our agent just found out that the British Government has will not allow their carriers to transport firearms to the country of Zimbabwe.

This is not on their website and they will not reimburse your tickets. The furthest you can get with your guns on BA is Joberg! Then you will have to charter SAA from there if you are gong to Zim.

Just thought i would let everyone know. We are now flying Lufthansa instead.

This is old news. Most folks either fly another airline or just book BA TO RSA then buy a separate set of tickets on another carrier. jorge

BD - This is nothing new, BA has been doing this for a long time now. Don't know who your travel Agent is, but the ones who "hang out" with us here on AR wouldn't have let you get that far before letting you know the situation. Hope all goes well.

The arms embargo to Zim is an EU embargo not a BA one and it's been in place for MANY years...

The trick is to have TWO sets of tickets issued. One set to take you to Johannesburg and the other to take you from there to Harare.

This might help: http://www.shakariconnection.c...ort-regulations.html

Okay, thanks guys, i see Shakari's post recently on another topic that mentioned this.

I don't understand why they can't just post this on their website! I can't believe this! If i ran my business like some of these carriers, i would be bankrupt a long time ago.

Bryce,

Your no better off with Lufthansa. The embargo is EU wide. Your agent is not qulified to be handling your arrangements. I would be contacting Kathi Klimes, Gracy Travel or Steve Turner today and get my travel straightened out. There also is no need for a charter to Zim. You just change to SAA or Comair for your flight to Zim.

Good luck!

Mark

Bryce,

You're right, it would help for them to put it on their website but their attitude is if they did, they'd then have to publish ALL the restrictions to everywhere in the world.

As has been said, your travel agent should have known this though.

Incidentally, you'll find all the requirements and a shed load of other info on our site at www.shakariconnection.com. Smiler

Thanks again guys. 'Charter' was a poor choice of word to describe the flight from Joberg to Har. I was a aware that it is not a charter.

Our agent is looking after any costs for changes without issue and she has made several arrangements for other friends of ours to Africa without any problems.

The good thing is that she is right here in our city in Canada, which makes it a bit easier to deal with things. I am confident that we will get it worked out, but i appreciate all your advise. This A/R Network has been a huge asset for planning this 'first' trip to Africa on so many levels. I am glad i joined!

Bryce,

Do you have your SAPs paperwork for SA, Zim gun permit, and letter of invitation.

Good luck on your first trip!!

On my last few safaris while using HHK, they've has sent me a package that already has my invites, SAPS rifle forms, my Zim stuff.... everything filled out and ready to produce and sign before the respective official(s) when I get off of the plane.

Kathi does my flights and she is always up to snuff with any changes, of course.

Professionals make my life easier and keep my angst low.

JudgeG ... just counting time 'til I am again finding balm in Gilead chilled out somewhere in the Selous.

As pointed out above, be sure you have the right paperwork for a Zim in-transit permit if you choose to go that way. There are services that can get the permit in advance but they do need some time.
