Dangerous DaveI leave for South Africa in one week
I leave for South Africa in one more week!
Boy am I ready to get away from all the gloom and doom about the economy. No news and no stock market reports for 11 days.
I am hoping to take several of the "little guys"
Thanks to all who gave me advise on what to hunt and guns and bullets ect.
My wish list includes: Duiker,Common Reedbuck,Vaal Rhebuck,Klipspringer and Oribi.I may also shoot a Waterbuck if i see a BIG one.
Fly to Joberg on 3-18-09 from Dulles. Let me know if any of you AR hunters will be traveling at the same time.
Good luck and have a great trip!

338zmagI also am leaving for S.A. next week. I fly out on 3/19 and arrive at 5:20 pm on 3/20 (the good Lord willing). I'm staying at Afton. I planned for several days of recovery time (jet lag) and possible lost baggage before I go hunt.
Enjoy your hunt.

retreeverFor jet lag I do two things one lots of hydration on plane and try to sleep... Secondly, I stay awake till bed time... Absolutely postively no naps after arrival... Take an ambien after dinner and hit the rack and you will get a very restful sleep... Ready to go..
To all of you guys have a great trip and I will be thinking of your hunts... In late Aug. to mid Sept I will be in the Selous and think of me...

The Best,
Mike

TexasHunterRetreever, curious we kept waking up around 3:00am every morning for the first half of the trip. How do you get around that?
Towards the end it was better.

While I've not yet been to Africa, I've been to Europe several times. I always treat the first day there after the red-eye as a normal day. In fact on my last flight in Jan, I landed at 6:00am. Took a 1.5 taxi ride and went straight to the office for a full day work.
That night, I went to bed at a "normal" time and I never had any issues with jet lag.
Coming home for me is much worse.
