BigBBearAmmo travel question
I probably know the answer to this but ill ask if there is a way. Going to Zim in Early September and ammo i want to take may exceed the weight as i want to take some 410 shells. I have an observer travelling with me. Is it possible for him to take any ammo? Transiting through Dubai on Emirates, then Joburg, final Vic Falls. I do not care about return weight.
Thanks,

the PomJust get your PH to buy you some 410 shells and save yourself a lot of grief.

Bwana338you have a couple of options.
1. have your PH purchase some shotgun shell for you.
2. have your travel partner put the shot gun in his name and pack it in a separate container take the shotgun ammo in his ammo container.
if the above are not possible, then reduce your other ammo to match your allowable weight limit.

Todd WilliamsMake DAMNED SURE, if going thru Dubai on Emirates, that if you plan on placing any ammo in your travel partner's baggage, you'll need firearms clearance for them in their names.
On our flight home in late 2023 from Zim, without us knowing it, the check in agent in HRE (contract agent, not Emirates employee) mistakenly put my son's name on my bag (with the ammo) and my name on his bag without ammo. In Dubai, they pulled my son aside and wanted to see his firearms permit, which he didn't have because it was all in my name.
We almost went to the pokey and missed our flight while it got sorted out with some "high level" help in Dubai. Spent about 4 hours in the police station in the airport. Live and learn on that one.
In the past, I've put ammo in my wife's bag when traveling SAA or Delta. Was never an issue, but it is in Dubai.
Larry & Larry, yes they count the weight of the lock and case. I just flew Emirates SFO to Dubai yesterday. Had to dig my ammo case out so they could weigh it.
Keep in mind, once you get to Joburg, you’ll need to check your ammo case separately on its own to fly Airlink. Mine is riding inside mt Pelican Air till we get to Jo’burg, then on its own up to Vic Falls.
As to your shotgun shells overweight question, Shawn Kennedy advised me that I can take shotgun shells without a shotgun as long as they’re declared on 4457. I’m guessing your travel companion can take those shells as long as the 4457 is in his name. I’m taking 10 rounds of 2 3/4” 12 gauge loaded with 1 5/8 oz of TSS 2’s for Alan Vincent. Gonna see how they perform on some bigger stuff like a hyena, hopefully.

So far they have always weighed the whole thing for me. I had a few discussions because it doesn't make sense, but they don't care.
