Just packed my Tuffpack - 45 lbs
I was surprised how heavy everything was.

My TuffPack with a tuffsack and a sweatshirt and three baseball caps (for padding). My model 70 (375) my 11G Savage (synthetic, lightweight) and two soft cases weighed 45 Lbs all by itself. I added a couple of T shirts and some socks for more padding and it came to 48.5 Lbs

I'm glad that I didn't get the heavier SKB case.

I use the 4-gun SKB, take out the center divider, and 2 guns, 2 soft cases, a few tools, binocs, spare scope, and a little foam rubber padding consistently comes in at 47-48 lbs.

My aluminum double bow case, with 2 dozen arrows, broadheads weighed 46 lbs,,, bought 4 lbs of hard candy in one lb bags for the kids in Namibia I run into there. If the airport weighs it at over 50,,, I cull candy and put it in my pockets till I get under the 50 lb limit. Friday is only 4 days away but it seems like eternity when your waiting to go back to Africa.

The one-pound candy bags is a great idea!

I was right there with an almost identical load. I used a jacket and sweatshirt for padding and glad I did. The idiots still love to throw the gun cases around. The only drawback to the clothing in the Tuffpak is the plastic smell they will have, but that receeds after a bit.

The smell in the Tuffpak comes from the mold release agent used. If you will pop the lid and let it all sit out in the hot sun for awhile that will soon go away.
Thanks for using Tuffpak.

I always pack all of my clothing, and any other items that will fit, into the Sea to Summit roll down water proof bags.

I use the lightweight ones for clothing and the thicker ones for gear. In my checked luggage I use the clear "plastic" ones for "gear" so TSA can see what is inside them with out opening them up.

Keeps all of my stuff organized, clean and dry and insect free throught the trip, even if something leaks out of someone elses luggage while inflight.

Hey Frank, do you have the older Tufpak or the newre one w/ the TSA locks? I am wondering if I should modify my older Tufpak w/ a strap & TSA lock just in case. Good luck on the trip. I am heading over the middle of Sept.

Fred,
I have the older model. TSA (or some contract worker) checked it in my presence then I was able to lock it back. no other worries.
