Question on transiting Germany.
Will be headed to Namibia later this year by way of Munich (Lufthansa and then Condor). The plan is to travel with one rifle and ammunition.

Because of how the connecting flights are scheduled, I will be staying Munich for around 2+ days. What are my options on secure firearm storage during this time? In addition, what procedures am I required to follow while on German soil during this period?

Thanks in advance for any insights, advice, etc.

Not sure how it is done in Munich, but we did the same in Frankfurt going over a couple years ago. Basically, you claim the rifles when you arrive in Germany, bring them to Customs, I think we had to get an escort from Customs, before we left the baggage/Customs area, as that holding area was in another building.

Then, when returning to the airport for our departure, ( on Air Namibia ), we went back to the Customs area, retrieved the rifles, went with escort to check the rifles into the Air Namibia flight.

I did remember to bring a small, extra, duffle bag, as they wanted our ammo out of our regular checked bags ( in it's locked container ), and placed into the separate bag. We had four rifles, two hunters, but both ammo boxes went into one handbag sized duffle.

If you don't have someone like Steve at "travelswithguns", then get someone. Regulations change often, and it sure helps to have an expert on your team. He got me fixed up a couple years ago in J-berg, wouldn't imagine not using them again.

Condor accepts firearms and ammunition as checked baggage. Their policies on these items seem consistent with the majority of other airlines.

Mike E is correct, Don't worry, the Germans will walk you thru it..Put everything in neutral and act like your stupid and have no clue, that always works...
