Storing guns in Frankfurt.

I'm told that for a fee you can store guns in a customs locker in Frankfurt while you take a layover of several days. How is this arranged?

Unless they have changed their policies, there is no fee and the guns must be stored with German customs as far as I know. Here is a thread that relates my experiences storing guns in Frankfurt, but be aware that this information is more than 2 years old and the circumstances may or may not have changed. Check with your travel agent if you have one or call German Customs in Frankfurt direct.

Last summer we traveled through Munich to Namibia, staying in Munich for a week before the hunt.

We were able to store the guns, like was said above, at the customs office for the duration.

Just a warning, there was paperwork that they and you have to fill out.
It was not done correctly in our case, and we spent time in the airport jail while the police tried to figure out the problem.

We were fortunate that the police held our plane.

I stored my guns in Munich 2 season ago for a few days while I visited the Blaser plant and had no trouble with German authorities. Unfortunately, someone at Blaser arranged it for me so I'm not sure what paperwork was involved. It was nice not to have to lug my guns around, though.

I hope I didn't have to fill out paperwork, because he just took my information and gave me a receipt. It was relatively painless, but took 25 minutes. I then went through the doors, hung a left and stored my checked bag for a week at the airport storage. He has my ammunition as well, I sure hope he doesn't lose that... But my PH prefers Norma Oryx in 9.3x62 so I suspect he has some.

As an aside, when I showed up in Italy I did not have to go to customs for an intra-Eu flight, which is different than it was in 2007.

Some flack from the SAA counter girl about how I should just bring the rifle to the counter like everyone else but in due time an incredibly cute young thing from SAA was dispatched to take me around and get it all worked out. Shortly I was on my way without incident. Would do again.
