6 species of British deer
This is a set I have just completed of the 6 different species of deer found in Britain, only the red deer and the roe deer are truly indigenous, the others have been introduced, although the fallow was introduced not long after 1066 ! so it has been here a very long time.

Hog, Axis and Pere David are all present in parks. We had one escapee herd of Pere David but they were shot out, after several caused large road accidents.

The Romans certainly did bring fallow to Britain in the first century AD along with introducing them to most of Europe , but it is generally thought that these were enclosed animals used as a food source, it is not known if there was any escape of these animals into the wild, however the Normans certainly brought them to stock the Royal hunting forests after William the Conqueror defeated King Harold at the battle of Hastings in 1066

Still looking at these and thinking they are stunning. Need to persuade the wife that glasses featuring game do not come under the shooting budget!

As a side note, which of the deer is also known as a "barking deer?"
