Before/After checkering on Erfurt.
Here's the Erfurt replacement stock that was way under-checkered by my guy in Mississippi and the final version after being worked by Craig Liphart. The wood will never be a favorite since it's a prime example of how a nice looking blank can turn into what I would call gender confusion. Even though the wood grain has no direction and a shallow embedded branch in the grip, I sort of like the Rhino head blotch on the right of the buttstock.
I also added a picture of the stock it replaced. All opinions appreciated as usual. CB

I don't think I've ever seen a cheek piece that covered so much of the butt. I kinda like it, and I guess you can call me a lover of transgender wood, cuz' I like that too. What are you gonna do with the old stock? Is it a small ring KAR action rifle?

FISH!!

Heed the words of Winston Smith in Orwell's 1984:

"Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right."

Looks fine. Here is my Erfurt 8x57 Carbine, an old school piece.

Matt,

This stock was built as a match to my 1936 Mexican. Hence the same style cheek piece. It certainly is low on the butt but I kinda like it.
That is a Kar98 small ring action with a light profile barrel.
As for the first stock, I have no clue what it may be worth. I got like $700 in it not including my time for shaping and bedding. This one was never carried in the field so it is still minty. Might listen to an offer. Hadn't given it much thought.

Nice one Boxhead.

The Mexican.

Thanks. It's still a virgin as in never hunted. I should hunt with it one of these years. Still haven't added a swivel mount to the butt of the stock.
