H H NAGEL rifle
Hi, I just came across a rifle in .300 win mag.

The barrel is stamped H H NAGEL, I am assuming this is a custom rifle from nagels gun shop in san antonio TX, can anyone tell me anything about them ? The stock is crappy and it looks like it was painted black with a rattle can so i am thinking I will re stock. , but otherwise the gun looks good and the price was right (free)

thanks

Looks like you already know who made it. Back in the days when surplus military rifles were cheap (50s & 60s) they did a lot of rebarreling and semi custom sporters. Work was equal to any being done at the time, but it will never be a collectors item. Nagels is still the biggest gun retailer in San Antonio.

yea I know who made it, the internet is a wonderfull thing, I was asking more along the lines of whether anyone could comment on the quality of such a rifle or lack thereoff, I will try to post pictures latter.....

I am wondering if it is worth re stocking and putting a new scope on it, since it wears an old simmons 2-7 right now, or if I should just buy something else instead of keeping it..... i guess I will have to see how it shoots...

I have a HH Nagel high number 03 Springfield, new bbl, forged bolt handle, D & T , timney trigger and an old bishop uncheckered stock from the 50's. Inletting on the bbl channel is a might generous, but she shoots well and I'm not afraid to scratch or dent it.
You got your for a good $$, see how she shoots. A basic gun that sits in the corner and gets used more often that not.
Good Luck.
