Defiance CRF Action Build

I've had several rifles built on Defiance actions over the years but this is my first on their new CRF action. I haven't got out to shoot it yet but the action is incredibly smooth. Hope it shoots as good as it looks. Oh ya, it's chambered in 300H&H.

It's a Rocky Mountain Rifle from Corlane Sports in Dawson Creek. It's their own Thinhorn action built by Defiance.

A cast extractor can leave you with an expensive club at the wrong moment. I replace all of mine.

But I would have thought that action would come with a milled extractor.

I don't see that action on their website.

Is the extractor a Mauser or Winchester?

Who makes a replacement milled extractor.

Did anyone actually have a Defiance extractor break or are we just talking double condom here.

We purchase the extractors from Williams Firearms and they are milled. We did get a broken one returned a couple weeks back and replaced it same day. If there are more problems, I need to know about it. Please contact us with this problem or any other issues you might have with Defiance Products.

For those of you that don't know, Glen used to own and I believe is the founder of Nesika Arms.

If Glen is going to build it, it will work.

It really isn't a m70. I "to me anyway" is a 700 that got improved. The improvements made to create the 704 series rifles, but they went another direction.

I am 100% impressed with Defiance.

I wasn't responding to you but the previous poster. As I said, I would assume these would have milled extractors.

You are likely looking at close to double the cost. Now if you were to take a stock M70 and have it trued/blueprinted then the costs would be more comparable.

I don’t mean to hijack this thread, just some clarity. Defiance actions are customized based on customer preference. The extractor and/or the three position safety are options on most of our actions. You’ll notice the action in the rifle is an open top with screw on scope mounts, a round receiver. The action only picture is one version of our integral recoil lug and scope mount receiver. There is plenty of room under the “rail” to load on this type. We have also made several that are for detachable box magazine only. This type is nearly impossible to load from the top.

Loading port looks pretty small. Is this action meant to be loaded from the bottom? Feed rail in action or off mag box?

This thread got me thinking about the design of the claw extractors on our controlled round feed actions. We purchase from a third party—a great company—and then make a slight modification. The modification is intended to make it easier for the gun builders to work with. But I have a broken extractor sitting on my desk, and the break is near that modification. Now, I’ve tested it and can’t figure out what made it break. We use this version in our own guns, and have fired them thousands of times with no problems. We have shipped less than 50 of these actions and only had one customer with a problem, but that doesn’t matter. For us, one problem is too many, so we will no longer modify the more traditional design.

The extractor you will receive in the future needs a slot cut into the breach of the barrel. (This looks like the Winchester 70 or the Dakota 76.) Anyone who has a rifle already completed needs to contact us. We will arrange to ship it to your builder or to our shop for the update. Defiance will pay all expenses for this process. I understand this may be an inconvenience to some, but I want every one of our customers to have complete confidence in his or her equipment. Our customers count on us to do the right thing, and this decision lets them continue to count on us.

If any of you has a problem in the future with any Defiance product, please contact us directly. We want to hear about it.

The M-70 breech approach certainly settles it once and for good, absolutely no question about that at all.
I hold this action in very high regard at this point. The fit and finish on these actions is really amazing, super smooth bolt operation, very nice 3 position safety with a super clever bolt shroud lock, I've seen shroud locks designed many ways this one takes the cake, very nice.
This action easily ranks #1 as round body CRF 700 clone with the 70 style breech setup.

Looks like another round body, coned breech, 700 CRF action. It says the bottom metal is sourced per the customer's specifications, which appears to mean that the feeding is via the machined rails like the pre-64 70 and mausers rather than via the bottom metal like the current classic 70s.
