Dago RedI'm in Fresno, and can't speak to San Jose but in Fresno, not really. you want to visit gunsmiths to see fine work? The only shop still doing gunsmithing, to my knowledge, is Gilman-Mayfield. I don't know how much custom work they're doing right now though. they are stand up guys and that's where I take my stuff when I have to stay local. if you are looking for guns, it is worth perusing the pawn shops and small gunshops. I know a guy from southern cal that buys/sells/trades and every time he is up here he combs through the pawnshops and does pretty good finding deals on rifles and shotguns.
if you go to gilman-mayfield (I think it is actually mayfield firearms now) Bob and Bill are the owners, and both great guys for talking guns, hunting, and any other aspect remotely related to firearms.

Blake 70Kerley's hunting and fishing is a good store. It is in San Jose.
There is a nice and friendly gun shop on Stevens Creek Blve in Cupertino. They seem to be very knowledgable. I cannot remember the name of the shop. When I was in high school '58-62 it was Cupertino Auto Parts and machine shop in the building that is now a gun shop.

It's called Kerley's.
Depends on how far you want to drive and what you want to look at (you can find all the addresses on Google):
Kerley's - pretty good, hunting oriented
Reeds - typical indoor range with mostly new selection.
Imbert & Smithers in San Carlos- good selection of new and lots of interesting used. Mostly hunting oriented
Krausewerk in San Mateo - Same, but with an orientation to military, WWII etc.
