How about those glass balls you find along the Pacific coast that come off Japanese fishing nets? I think there are differsnt sizes.

Are you talking about the old glass balls, used as "clay pigeons" of old?

Yes. Sharon is looking for the glass shooting balls. She sent me a link to a page that has photos of the balls she is looking for.

A little information about the glass target balls.

From around 1875 to the early 1900s, glass balls were the target of choice, particularly in exhibition and Wild West Show shooting.
Annie Oakley is said to have had silk streamers stuffed inside.

This is an article copied word for word.

The Sun
New York, Sunday, March 18, 1888

Miss Oakley was with the Wild West show in New York and at Staten Island, and accompanied Buffalo Bill and his cowboys to England, where she won praise from Prince of Wales and his august mother. Since her return she has distinguished herself at the Long Branch tournament, where she won two of three matches from William Graham, the English champion. Besides her skill in shooting, Miss Oakley is an accomplished rider, and has won many races.
Among her tricks in quick and fancy shooting is one in which she throws two glass balls over her head with one hand, and, wheeling about, shoots them both before they land. In another she runs twenty feet, picks up her gun, and hits two clay pigeons, one to the right and one to the left. without pausing.
Her real name is Butler, she being married to a man of that name, who is her manager.

I've seen them come up on ebay occasionally. I wonder if a glass blower could duplicate the style of Annies balls.

A little off subject, but what did they shoot in those exhibitions? Squib loads of some sort?

No, not really, genuine glass target balls are expensive. Target balls linked to Oakley, even in style only, very expensive. Modern glass making can be pretty cheap in comparison.

Early Annie Oakley footage..........[FLASH_VIDEO] [/FLASH_VIDEO]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XN85Nj_bfQo

I think at that range perhaps unburnt powder would be enough to bust a target?
