I'd like to build a 22-250AI this year, and my gunsmith sent me on a hunt for a reamer. What do I need to know?

Chubs,

Call Pacific Tool and Gauge in White City, Oregon. They will tell you what they need from you and what they can do for your quest. Oh yeah, welcome to the forum.

Luck,

Stephen

If the gunsmith is in business and does not have reamer sources, I would do some thinking about the gunsmith.

You need to decide what type of chamber also, SAAMI, snug, tight neck requiring neck turning, what type of bullet, throating, etc., lots of things go into the thought process, especially if you are after one ragged hole.

I have several reamers on various flavors of 22-250 and AI version, but I do not lend tooling.

Like the other post says, talk to PTG. Look at the specials pages on their site, they may have one ready to ship.

Hey, I'm not being fair to the gunsmith. I took it upon myself to hunt up a reamer when he said I'd need to buy one for that caliber. I guess it could be interpreted a couple different ways what he meant. I thought I'd take it upon myself since he is busy. White City is in my backyard so that's perfect.
I am looking for a "standard" chamber as I am not interested in tight necks, etc. I just want to pull the handle on the press and produce! Thanks for the heads up on the local company, that couldn't be any better.

Ask White City for the specs on their rental and then measure some brass, especially the diameter at the datum line .200 from the base. There are alot of reamers out there that are considerably larger than the brass and especially with an AI you will get an unsightly bulge upon fire forming.

yes it would be a good idea to measure a reamer before you use it no matter where you got it. figure that goes without saying
