Another Wiebe Masterpiece
After 3 years and a couple weeks from placing the orders, my second Duane Wiebe rifle has made it home.

In typical Duane fashion, he exceeded my expectations on every level. The rifle turned out perfect, better than I had in mind.

I don't know how he did it, but even starting with an action not know for it's "svelteness", Duane managed to craft a slim, trim, superbly handling rifle that carries much lighter than it's modest weight would suggest.

The details:

Granite Mountain Arms action
Scope mounts by Joe Smithson
Half round/ Half octagon barrel with full length rib by Ralf Martini
Chambered in 375 Holland & Holland Magnum
Extended tangs by Duane
Engraving by Charles Lee

It weighs a little over 9 pounds, balances perfectly and points like a fine shotgun.

It's younger sister is in the works now, basically an almost identical rifle in 300 H&H. It will also sport a GMA action and Martini barrel.

I've posted this one before, but this is the big brother in 416 Rigby:

I hadn't seen any postings of Duane's stuff recently and thought I had my addiction under control.

However, now more than ever I want to stop by Duane's "rifle house" and get a fix.

CAS,

The rifle is fabulous!

If possible, I would love to know the following:

1) 9 lbs approx. weight is with the scope and mounts or bare?
2) Barrel length?
3) Which Granite Mountain Action, ie Standard Mag.?
4) Drop box or standard?
5) How many rounds does the box hold?

Mr. Wiebe is a true Master Gunmaker!

Best,

jjs

Nice rifle. Here is my view on this. The wood is dark and attractive. The stock shape is the most attractive feature of this rifle-it is very, very, nice. The square bridges are just a little too high and I think the profile would've looked better without the long integral rib.I prefer this rifle over the rigby below.

jjs,

It weighs 9lbs 6oz as shown.
24" barrel
Standard Mag action without a drop box
It holds 4 down easily with enough room to chamber an additional round for 4+1 capacity

Thanks for the kind words gentlemen.

Shootaway, sorry that the rifles don't live up to your lofty expectations. Hopefully I can cry myself to sleep over that fact tonight.

I'd be curious to know how you'd plan on operating the bolt or getting your face low enough to center your eye in the scope If the scope was mounted any lower? As it stands now, I can't retract the bolt with the Leupold "scope condom" in place so there isn't much of an option to go any lower.

I can't say much towards where the scope should be.I just know that the bridges look a little high. However, the project looks like a success.I'll leave you with this-everything on a rifle says something-everything.

I think people that own Duane Weibe rifles should maintain a continuous "open house" policy to allow fellow AR members to come by and gawk at them firsthand.

This is probably one of those deals where if you have to ask you cant afford it, but how much are the Joe Smithson mounts and rings? Does he sell them to the public or is it one of those things where only he will do the installation?

Not fast enough for grown ups like me that act like little boys waiting for Christmas morning. Good news is that the wait is worth it.

Just to be clear, it did not take Duane 3 years to complete his work, most of the time was spent waiting on components and engraving. Once all the parts were in place, I had to wait my turn in line like everyone else.

Duane completed his work on the time table he laid out in the beginning.

Three years was the total time from when I placed the first component order (the barrel) until delivery. It was set back a little because I had originally wanted to use a Satterlee action, but given the delivery problems that were plaguing that operation during that time I canceled that order and switched to a GMA action.

Less than what it's worth to me and more than I'd admit to my wife.
