need help-McMillan stock for Brno 21
I picked up a neat 7x57 and would like to bed it into a McMillan stock (I prefer their checkering to smooth-sided synthetic alternatives). I've seen posts by other owners of Brno 21s who claim to have stocked their rifles with McMillan's Interarms Mark X stock. I like this stock pattern, but when I called McMillan, I was told that McMillan did not have any measurements for Brno 21 rifles, so they could not help me. Anyone either have experience trying this (maybe I spoke to the wrong people at McMillan), or helpful thoughts? thanks

Yes, the 21 is just a small ring commercial 98. So it can fit in the Mark X stock. The cool part is that they have similar geometry as the Sako actions so they can go in Sako stocks as well. I have a FN commercial 98 in a Sako Compact with Edge fill. Same stock also know as the Hunters Edge. It turned out great. You will have to send them the barreled action for fitting. But it can be done and the proportions of the Sako a Compact are much more in line with the petite barreled action. I bet you will be very happy with the results. I will be sending in a Husqvarna 1640 (also a SR 98ish)for the same stock here shortly.

Haverluck - thank you.

Now I called McMillan to confirm my stock choice (Sake Classic pattern), only to be told that they do not inlet any of their stocks for small ring Mauser actions. I assume that without their pre-programmed lathes or whatnot, fully inletting a McMillan stock is hours of work?

May I suggest you call again and ask to speak with Justin.

Tell him that you will send in the barreled action for fitting.

“I have a Mauser that I want to put in xxx stock. What address do you want me to send the barreled action to for fitting.”

It can be done and their custom fitment charges are not that high. This may not be as easy as a 700 or M70 but it can be done. The dimensions and angles of the action fit and that is more than half the battle.

thank you for taking the time and interest to help me with my Brno stock fitment challenge. Sounds like you have the right guy to talk with at McMillan. One of the many great things about AR!

thanks again and take care

The Brno mod 21 is a G33-40 action, a small ring Mauser round top, or double square bridge, both the same for inletting..

Sticking a plastic stock on a Brno mod. 21 is akin to sodomy, child molestation and whatever other evil exists in this world! Wink hilbily sofa

I order the McMillan Mark x as a flat top then cnc machined the inlet. I've done this many times for my own Satterlee actions as well as other Mauser actions on custom builds.
I specify the shell material be it fiberglass or carbon fiber edge then fill weight, light, medium or heavy.
Takes a while to get one but well worth it.

Unlucky for me, but the Classic stocks do not fit my hands.

My pinky does not even fit the handle.. I needed to upgrade to the Sako Hunter stock to actually get a propper grip on the stock.

Good to know if you have large hands?

Since the Brno 21 is a small ring 98 and the Mark X is a large ring 98, a bit of bedding fill will be needed.
