Checkering tools.....where are they?
I normally buy Dem Bart tools.....but it seems Brownells are constantly out of stock on almost all of them.

Right now I'm wanting single line 60 degree short pull type cutters.....I seems I'd be better off wanting .22 LR ammo

What's the advice from those of you in the same boat?

Your situation is a great example of how the internet can be beneficial, was looking for a 90 degree veiner recently, Dem-Bart was out, Brownells was out, but an internet search found a wholesale knife parts company had some in stock and I was able to purchase at a lower price point and take possession within days instead of whenever. Ebay may also be a good source. Also if you haven't already look at Michael Ullman's cutters at Ullman Precision Products, his craftsmanship and quality are top notch.

I went thru the same thing a couple of months ago. I wanted some sharp new cutters and no one had any. I ended up using what I had. Its kinda crazy.

Thanks Jim, that's high praise for Mr Ullman.

Have you gone to the source? Dem Bart

I bought some handles and cutters directly from WE Brownell this year. Not as good as they used to be, but still better than the Dem Bart cutters in my opinion. I want to try some Ullman tools next.

I have been using Dembart tools since 1984. Today I called the factory and got the owner. Gunline's owners have retired and are trying to find a buyer. It has gotten harder to get W.E. Brownell cutters (not impossible..just harder. The world wide demand for checkering cutters has EXPLODED. The owner of Dembart says he is getting requests from Russia, Greece, Europe, South America, Austrailia, Africa, and every where else you can think of. He is moving as fast as he can. It is hard to keep quality control in check with the demand on his product at this time. However, he said he is not going to slacken on the QC. FWIW
