Anyone ever refinish a new M70?

I've been seeing some nice wood grain on some of the modern FN Winchesters both in Deluxe and grade 3 featherweights. Yet, to me the finish doesn't bring out the true beauty of the wood.
Has anyone out there ever removed the factory finish and reworked the stock using hand-rubbed stock oil?

I just had my Model 70 Super Grade refinished as the factory finish was cheap. The semi-retired gunsmith that did the work used Velvit wood finish on the stock with a sealer. The walnut looks very nice. It looked like plastic before the refinish job.

He is not a Model 70 fan and I could not convince him that the forend tip was ebony. The walnut stock looks very nice and the gun shoots better now. There were two washers spacing the bottom metal to the stock. Acraglas now does this job. The action and the first few inches of the barrel are glass bedded as well. Pillars were installed as well.

Payment was in cash and very good Irish whiskey.

Thanks Walt. Some before and after pictures would be nice if it isn't a bother. No matter, good to hear it is an improvement.

Velvit oil, or any other premium product, can do wonders to a factory stock. I refinished my Ruger RSM 375 H&H stock before I sold it. Sanded down, including the checkering, took the sharp edges off the front, did some ebony highlights around the front barrel screws, replaced the cross bolt with an all thread and ebony plugs, Red recoil pad, new checkering, and hand rubbed velvit oil with 100% pore filling. I did all the work myself except the checkering. It looked like a completely different rifle. The factory finishes are designed to fill pores and self level and usually have some sort of tint to them. Great for mass production.
