New Mauser finished ...
Finally ..after a number of months and the other many projects .. this Mauser is ready for deer bashing !!!

Built on a Mark X , chambered in 7MM Remington Mag. , 2 postition safety , and Wisner straddle floorplate added ..

Pennsylvania grown English walnut wasn't the hardest but worked nice .. was built from a blank . Hand inlet and handshaped ... 24 lines-per-inch checkering .. what you see is what you get !!

It's a nice break from building Flinters ...

Very Nice! I've always admired your longrifles, you do beautiful work. Ive been working on my first longrifle for a while now. I think Mausers are easier,or maybe I'm just more comfortable with themSmiler. Thanks for posting.

Looks good, I like the long, open slim grip. Looks like it should point real well.

Beautiful work Allen, and I especially like your treatment of the checkering over the wrist.

First off .... Thanks to all the kind words and comments ..

Mark Poley .. I'm not sure what is easier .. I guess it's what you do most .. I have built almost 250 custom flinters from plain to fully tweeded golden age rifles .. so doing a hand inlet Mauser is fun , different and makes me think in a different way .. You should come to the CLA show in Lexington KY in August .. cool show !!

SR4759 .. You are so right .. I need to change the title .. I should have known better in the first place ...owning (3) 7x57's!!

I have a few other bolts rifles in different stages and hope to post more in near future ..

Thanks again for taking a peek .. God bless !!

Allen,

That stock pattern is sweet! Probably one of the best I have seen on a Mauser.

Is that your own design?

Understated elegance. Well done.

The hunting imperative was part of every man's soul; some denied or suppressed it, others diverted it into less blatantly violent avenues of expression, wielding clubs on the golf course or racquets on the court, substituting a little white ball for the prey of flesh and blood.

That's really a beauty! I too love the checkering pattern especially how you handled the grip. I think you should do a lot more of these. I"m not a fan of flintlocks, but I am a big fan of bolt action sporters, I'd love to see some more.

Very nice! Are you sure that is 24 LPI though? The diamonds look a bit larger than the 24 LPI I am currently working on...

Austin hunter ..

Yes ... my own stock design more or less .. I can't take all the credit as there are many great gunstockers that inspired me along the way ..
I enjoy hand shaping gunstocks the most .. brings is all together !!

Red ..
I have a few more big bores and others coming along .. it'll be a little while before you'll see em on here .. too many flinters to build !! Sorry .....

Montea..
The Dem-bart pack says 24LPI ... my scales shows 24 ... so I guess it's 24 ..
Perhaps my checkering is deeper than most , making it appear larger .. I need to work on that ..
The other thing is , this wood was a bit softer ... I had to deepen to sharpen the points ..

Again to all the others .. thanks for the compliments and encourging words ..

Time to git back to work or go flyfishing .. hmmm..
