Once I ordered those 105 AMAXs the other day I thought to self, self, is my 700(6mm REM) up to the task of shooting these bullets well enough, afterall, it has a bit over 1000 shots thru the tube, so I was thinking, should I get a takeoff barrel thats never been fired, more than likely in a 243 and have it rechambered in 6mm Rem, or shoot what Ive got and see what happens. And, a nice new S/S barrel might look nice on my old 22 yr old rig. thoughts anyone? Oh, a new match barrel isnt in the equation, I want to do my shooting with a factory barrel, they shoot pretty damn good for the money. So of the custom builders out there, whos got a takeoff S/S barrel for a remington in 243 that would rechamber it to 6mm Rem for me if thats what I want to do?

Don't want to rain on your parade but a normal 6mm will not clean up a 243 chamber without major setback. In the range of .9-1"

I recommend tha tbefore you do anything else, you TRY your new bullets in your old rifle just the way it is. No matter how well or how poorly they do in someone else's rirfle, the only way to determine how they will perform in your's is to shoot them in your's. And, don't be afraid to try several different loads and/or seating depths.

You may be either very disappointed, or very pleasantly surprised. But either way, you'll know what's the logical next step.

Ill do just that, Im going to try 3 different loads, starting with 44grs RE19, ending @45grs, seating the bullets about .005" off the lands, if none of those shoot in the 3s @100yds that'll be the end of my testing for this bullet, if RE19 wont shoot, nothing else will, Im pretty confident of that. This rifle has shot in the 3s with 95VLDs a while back, that was with 760, it took 80 shots to get those nice groups, I think if I had RE19 it wouldnt have taken that long.

If a 22 year old 700 will shoot in (or near)the 3's with anything, I would get rid of the 105's, not the barrel.

Why get rid of the bullets, I havent even shot them yet??

Unless you have an 8 or 9 twist the rifle probably won't shoot them very well so you may not have a problem after all.

Yeah, my 6mm has a 9 1/8 twist.
