A different kind of custom rifle
My son and I started participating in winter biathlon a couple of years ago. We could not afford the $3,000+ for the available guns so I built a couple starting with Savage Mark II .22s. His is identical to mine except the color. With decent ammo, they easily clean the targets when we do our part. I started with a Boyds stock, which has been heavily modified, inletted the rails, and made the cassette for the clips from scratch.

Nice work. My club is starting a Biathlon league. I got skis last year and was contemplating which .22 to setup. Your pics answer a few questions I had. What's the block on the RH side of the cheek piece? Where'd you get the muzzle cover front sight assy?

Hi Gzig5.

The thing on the side of the cheek piece is a block for single spare rounds in case you have a misfire, drop a round, or for a relay race where you keep loading until all targets are hit. The sights came from Eastern Sierra Armory (www.easternsierraarmory.com). Another good source for parts is Altius Firearms (www.altiusguns.com). I made the clip cassette because I could not find a ready-made one.
