SnavEnglish Stock Finish
Hi All
I am in the process of trying to build my own stock onto my Bruno 22 Hornet. I was lucky enough to be given a Walnut blank, otherwise this would of been an even more nerve wracking experience!
It has taken me a considerable time to do the inletting but I am rather happy with it so far. I would like to finish it off with a English Hand rubbed finish. All of my research so far though has come up with more questions than answers. The processes vary quite considerably. I saw a video on youtube where the process of filling the pores began quite early in the process with quite coarse sand paper.
Some finishes are to a quite high gloss, whereas others seem to be quite dull.
I did a practise run by refinishing my shotgun, and although the pores are nicely filled as mentioned the finish is dull.
And the use of Alkanet Root? IS this common practise?
Some insight would very much appreciated.
