That is absolutely perfect! tits delicious! it is absolutely pristine, and a super example of functional art, man if you just added that to your safe you are a very lucky man. integral barrel hardware, gorgeous bluing. I'd be happy with this one.

That is cooler than the other side of the pillow. Truly a stunning work of art.

Yep, a nice early slant magazine, stepped ring Mauser for the 400/350 Rimmed cartridge.
Strange that only the bottom metal is engraved. Anyone know if that would be common on a Rigby?
Also, I don't think that any of the fittings on the barrel are integral. Maybe the front sight base. Normally, the bridge on the barrel for the front scope base is integral but not sure on this rifle. Looks like a solder line there.

Looks to me as though it's been restored, and a super job!

I had one identical to this one except it was in the original oak-&-leather case and had a Lyman tang sight instead of the Rigby one. The scope was clear but obviously vintage optics.

Back in those days (~1970) brass was almost impossible to find except from Oregon Ammo Service. They had bought out all or almost all of the old Kynoch stock and I had loaded up on several hundred NOS cartridge cases of different calibers and plenty of the Berdan primers, so I could cobble together some rounds for shooting.

Those were the days! Rifle in the original Rigby case with original scope was $1,000 from Safari Outfitters in CT. Of course about that same time I also bought a Hubertus 5.6x35R/16x16/8x57JR vierling and an H&H 500/450 Magnum double rifle for $1,000 each, that'll give some more idea of the relative prices of the day.
Regards, Joe

Wow, the bluing (blacking?) is awesome. Looks like the inside of a coal mine at night. Beautiful rifle.

40K ???????????

Maybe it was listed on 1st April Big Grin

You can by a good used English Double rifle for that kind of money - or a lot less and a bit more would get you a Holland Royal.

All original????

Description:

"This rifle is built on a magnum length single square bridge Mauser Oberndorf action, and is fitted with a high- quality German scope with see- through mounts. It has a barrel band sling loop, a hooded front sight, and a trap door butt plate for cleaning kit storage. A one standing/two folding leaf sight and a bolt- mounted dial- type peep sight are mounted at the rear. This rifle is remarkably engraved at the trigger guard bow and magazine cover. The barrel bore is excellent and shiny, and the gun enjoys very high condition over all. This gun is one of a collection that took the previous owner 35 years to accumulate. Each rifle that is offered from this group is absolutely the best that this collector could locate. Selective upgrading and careful selection were the benchmarks for this collector's acquisitions. Only rifles in high, original condition- most usually free of cracked wood or other blemishes- were satisfactory to the previous owner. This rifle is yet another example of that discerning taste."

I knew the owner of this rifle and many others had already been sold through Puglisi earlier, its was from a wonderful collection of a man that was low key but a very nice man to talk with.

Beautiful rifle. Personally I could do without the engraving on the floorplate but I certainly could learn to live with it!
