I'm not sure why this gun is still listed, I bought it afew weeks ago. Well ok it's a layaway deal but still, I have no intent to rescind it. And yes, it's a hell of a lotta gun for the price.

Great buy! Before I posted it, I was debating on whether to pull the trigger on it myself but figured someone here would remove the temptation for me.

First thing the buyer should do is have MNR craft some custom bases for that rifle!!

Congrats on a Great Rifle
I looked at it for a moment but it was an inch too short for me

Wow! Caswell really priced this one to sell! Selling price would about cover down payment these days. Happy to see it going to a good home..and nice guy!

Thank you Duane, I consider you one of the absolute best and am beaming to own this rifle and fondly remember the time I got to visit you in your shop and the patience you shown me with that custom floorplate you hybridized for my H&H rifle. My GF daughter recently moved to Tacoma and I want to make good on that steak dinner .

Nice rifle! Saw it come up on Champlins a few weeks ago and couldn’t figure out what was going on with the rear base??
Not criticising just curious.

I know nothing about the bases...

Wow, they gave that one away. The rear base looks like a Talley; remember that the pre 64 70 rear bridge is cut away quite a bit for the long round.
So that base overhangs the cut away part.
And that hidden sling stud: simply brilliant and only DW could envision and make that. Something I never thought of for sure.

That’s a rear base for a Dakota 76 or 97 that’s been turned backwards. The slot cut in the one side is so the swinging bolt release will clear.

" Swinging bolt release " ? i'm not seeing it. No matter, I have plans for different bases and scope anyway .

That makes sense, thanks.

The Dakota 76 and 97 have a bolt release that sits flush with the side of the action and as you rotate it out to release the bolt the top protrudes out just a little bit so they have to mill that slot on the bottom of the base so it will clear. The ones we have with Talley bases are at my dads house right now but here’s one with a Leupold style base where you can see what it’s doing. I had to mill an extra slot on the other side of a Talley base for one of my buddies rifles that’s a lefty and had a base for a right handed action on it. The one on your rifle is just rotated 180 degrees which put the slot on the front right side. If you don’t want those you can send them back to Oklahoma when you get it in and I’ll put them on another Dakota haha.

And stand by, I might just send them to you, I'm from Altus and don't mind supporting a fellow Okie. I don't think i'll have a need for them.

Ok thanks, just let me know. I was fixing to order a set before long for a 338 I just picked up and want to swap from the other bases it’s got on it. I bet you’re loving Alaska a lot more than you ever did Oklahoma!
