6mm Ackley Improved

6mm Ackley Improved.I call this my Classical/Tactical.
I always wanted to build a glass rifle but always found a nice stick of walnut and just never got around to it. Well…I got around to it and this is what I have…I like it!
Remington 700 long action blueprinted, Bartlein stainless 5r , 25” Sendaro contour and fluted, 1/8 twist barrel. Shelein trigger, Badger extractor, PTG bolt stop/release, PTG 3 position safety. Machined bolt handle, fluted bolt, Pillar/glass bedded action and Remington original floor plate, floated barrel…11* crown. 20 moa Weaver 1 pc. Base and Weaver rings (everything with 8/40 screws). Leupold VX-R 4x12x40 Firedot VLR scope with 2.5 sunshade and Alunima scope covers. McMillian Remington fiberglass stock with 20% black, 60% olive, and 20% tan. All work done by me with the exception of the fluted bolt.
Coyotes beware…Smiler.

Thank you for the comment...I was beginning to think it was really ugly. Wink
Our weather has been nothing but crap after having put this together, but I did manage to go out and get 10 rounds off on a windy and cold day at the range. Due to conditions I was really happy with the way it shot.

If it shoots, it shoots. If it doesn't it is a trade, sale or tomato stake. Looks like yours is a keeper.

Hey Steve, what fill is in the stock & what's the finished weight of the rifle?

I was thinking of doing 6.5-284 with the same exact bbl. contour/config. as yours.

Thanks

Rod

Rod, I don't have a good way to weigh it. The tang forward is all glass, from there to the back...again not sure what McMillan uses but its sturdy and not that pingy noise you get from other stocks. I used aluminum every place I could and cut flutes to .700. Talked to several barrel mfg. and they told me when you start turning under .700 in diameter you start changing the dimensions inside the barrel. It's just a wee bit barrel heavy, but still at a weight I can hold still for a fair amount of time. I find a way to weigh it I'll let you know...I'm curious as to the finished weight also.
