buckstixHello bwanamrm
Thanks for the reply.
Yes, shot a few more rounds today - 1-1/8" 5-shot group @ 50 yds.
The rifle's History is slowly being puzzled together. Today I found a couple more references to this rifle's build in the 1984 Gun Digest.
First pic shows Jack Lott shooting a 458 model 70. Right above him is a picture of my rifle. The picture shows the rifle before the scope blocks were added.
Second pic shows my rifle's barrel unfinished, "in the white",during construction.

DuckearWhat a cool story and cool rifle!
Thx for sharing it.
I admit I am a bit amused with the irony of a Lott rifle in 458WM.

Hello srtrax.
Thanks for the reply.
I love rifles with stories. Now if only I can locate some of those missing papers that were with the rifle.

Hello Duckear,
Thanks for the reply.
Apparently Jack built whatever the customer wanted. In this case a 458 Win Mag for Howard French. It is likely that even though Jack had developed the 458 Lott wildcat by the time he built this rifle, Mr. French was not a handloader and did not want a rifle chambered for a wildcat cartridge. Rather, he wanted a big game rifle in a caliber that had cartridges readily available throughout Africa.
