98 Mauser Conversion to Square Bridge

I've seen 98 Mausers converted to single and double square bridge. Any drawings of the blocks available? Or dimensions? Are blocks available for sale? Are these tig welded? Silver soldered? soft soldered? Would like to get some details so I could try a conversion...pictures would be great. Thanks, Ron

Don't need drawings; they aren't all the same anyway; just mill out and weld on a chunk to look like an original picture.

David Christman has done a couple for me. I believe this is my 9.3X62 on a Banner Mauser.

The next is my 7X57 Mexican by David Christman

Not good photos, but David Tigged them on and had both receivers recased.

On the few that I have done I have milled bases just like if to make scope bases sans cuts. Clamped in place and TIG'd as Duane suggests. Then cleaned up and dovetailed on the mill.

Be CAREFUL on the rear bridge. My very first one I did was thankfully on a junk receiver. I must have gotten the rear bridge too hot because the bolt was VERY tight going in.

The nicest I have had done were by Rick Stickley and they were double square bridges tigged and milled for Talley rings and you could slide on a cap to hide the mill cuts when the scope wasn't in use..they had a very small detent ball, spring insert to hold them in place and you had to get in sunlight to see the seperation line they were so well fitted..

I have no idea where Rick Stickley is today. He was in Pocotello Idaho working for another well known gun smith when I knew him some 15 or so years ago...

He's in Iowa and no longer doing gun work. His rings were actually of his own design rather than Talley's. His all integral barrels are superb.

His integral barrels were indeed superb. Part of the reason he quit gun work was because lesser people he worked for were taking credit for his work.
