Maybe I should have asked this in the small
cal. Segment? Anyway I just acquired a little
takedown Browning, Belgium made.It has a sliver
of wood busted out of the grip area.
Since I plan on building a stock anyway?
Just wondering if anyone out there has customized one?
I'm just looking for some ideas! If you have
pics, and would post them it would be great!

I did one of these a number of years ago for a client. It was quite an undertaking as he had special dimensions. One of the problems was the amount of drop in the butt to accomodate the attach/charger tube, one and the same unit. I turned it around and instead of charging it from the side of the stock, it now charges in the bottom so one would turn it over to insert the rounds. This eliminated that ugly charger hole the originals had in the side of the stock. I had to make a skelton type butt plate and attach nut also due to the different location of the tube. All in all, I think it turned out rather nice. Sorry, don't have any pics.

Many decades ago G&A magazine had an article on a custom Browning. Don't recall the smith's name but he was a well-known maker, in Montana I believe.

Straight grip, semi-bull bbl, Lyman Alaskan in detachable mounts, whole rig made to take down & reassemble solidly, altogether a splendid little rifle. I'll see if I can find more detail.

Thank you Jim! I've been looking things over, and had similar
thoughts. I don't like the ugly hole in the buttstock either.
this one may take me awhile?
Just gonna work on it between other projects. I think
they are neat little plinkers, just fun to shoot.
