Ralf does do amazing work... congrats on what looks to be a fine rifle.

I have always been a fan of Ralph Martini's work. I hope we get better quality pictures when finished. Looks good!

Very Cool. Really good to see this one.
Ralph really has that shape dialed in, looking great. Should be a pleasure to own and use.

The stock has only the second coat of oil on it.
The square bridges will be lowered and shaped nice.
I can't wait to try it out.
Who knows, it might see Africa and take a nice buff some day.

Has Ralf always done the line around the grip? I've always associated that with Dorleac.

Mam Mia! All the right hands touched that one. Bet the bolt cycles like it's on bearings. Ralf did some real magic on that pistol grip. Couldn't make a nicer one than that. And the caliber is??? .404 Jeffrey? Never mind, see it now.

I guided a bear hunting client this past spring who was carrying one of Ralph's rifles in 375. They shoot and function every bit as well as they look.

Thanks.I like how the figure in the blank turned out in the stock. It came out better than I thought it would. It fills the whole stock just perfect. The blank was said to be very dense as well.

I heard from Ralf yesterday and it looks like there is only the checkering and some standard engraving left to do.He was going to sight it in yesterday. He still has some rounds- A-frames and Woodleigh solids I sent him.He has it feeding with all types, including brass flat nose solids.

Thanks fairgame and thanks to all.

I think I will go with traditional rust blue just like I had on the other Lott Ralf built for me.

It will not be long before it is finished. The standard engraving Ralf offers will take about a week to do.Then there is the checkering and blueing.

I will load some rounds for it in the mean time.

That is a stunning .458 Lott, George. The fact that it is built on a Satterlee action makes it all the more sweet. I've never attempted to buy anything from Stuart, because I was always afraid of an unpredictable lead time. Bravo on this build, George. Cheers. Chip.

P.S. What did you do with the first .458 Lott that Ralf built for you?

I still have it.I took it out of the safe yesterday, shouldered it and just admired it.I've taken two buff with it.I am really looking forward to shouldering this one and trying out the Satterlee action. It will be interesting to compare the two.

George, no plans right now. Trying to figure out how to afford a hunt to bag a good Gerenuk.
Then maybe try a forest hunt.

Looks like a very nice rifle. Let us know how it shoots.

Will this become the new "best rifle in all the world"?

I never realized that the line was put on the back of the grip before the gun is checkered. I have one done like that by MD Highsmith. Since I finished the stock and sent it to him for checkering, I never knew until now that he most likely cut the line in my stock before he checkered it. Nice.

I got the rifle. My first impression was that it is very similar to the first Lott Ralf built for me.I then looked at the wood and that stood out in that it was beautiful and dark.It kind of felt lights at 9lbs 11oz- perfect weight. It shoulders well too. Then I examined the Saterllee action. It felt well balanced on the rifle. The magazine holds three cartridges, plus one in the chamber for a capacity of four. The cartridges fit really tight in the magazine. One needs to get a little practice at loading it.The tight magazine makes for a slim and compact rifle. The bolt cycles smooth. It is just as smooth as my Vektor Lott but it feels more solid or more like you have control. The floor plate does not open instantly when you press the release button. That is good news in a sense that it should not be opened especially accidentally.I pulled the trigger on an empty chamber and was impressed. The trigger is like lightning.Lock time is very fast and the striker spring is very powerful.Trigger pull is a little light but excellent.

I loaded some dummy rds with Swifts and tested feeding and ejecting repeatedly with the outcome being that it handles the cartridges superbly. The safety works great with the thumb. It is quiet, smooth and tight. It has to be worked with the thumb only.I might bring the rifle to the range today. So far this rifle has turned out better than expected. It seems like a dream rifle. It is also quiet an expensive rifle.Luckily I bought the barrelled action and stock a few years ago before the unfavorable exchange rate and a higher cost price.
