Norway_Moose_hunterStraight pull actions...Any good?
Hello.
Old rifles are very fascinating.
The chaining style in stocks and actions, very interesting.
So, the Mannlicher M95 and the Swiss Schmidt_Rubin action I find very interesting. But, how are they?
Any one who use them in a hunting gun?
All information is welcome.
Have a good day.

zimbabweI had a Heym carbine in 35 Whelen that was one of the fastest operating bolt actions I have ever used. I think it was the SR20. It also had the fastest best iron sights I have ever used. An Army officer stationed in Germany had it built by Heym while he was stationed there. Only drawback was it was the most punishing rifle I have ever fired. It even gave a nice scope cut to a friend who has been shooting for many years.

richjBrowning makes a BAR without a gas port. It's got a long ass ugly bolt handle.
and Roessler revived the Mauser 96 straight pull as the Titan

Both are very well made, Swiss one even little better. So either of them is good for your purposes.

mlfgunsMauser had a straight pull bolt action in the mid 1990's I believe model 99 for around $650. I played with but not owned in calibers of .308, .30-06 and .300 win mag. They were not marketed enough but seem very well built and very fast action.

Norway_Moose_hunterThank you all for the information.
Igorrock, thank you. It is the Austrian and/or the Swiss action I am looking at. You have one of them?
Have a good day.

No, but I have heard and read many tests and discussion of them. Swiss K31 is quite popular at shooting competions with ex-military rifles. The reason is it´s very good accuracy and flawless action.

Reverend RecoilI have won a silver and gold medal in the Camp Perry Vintage Rifle Matches with my Swiss K31. My brother borrowed it and killed three wild hogs. I have a rifle for most every occasion. The Swiss K31 is one of my favorites.

dellorothe steyr M95 has been converted to .45-70 and 30-40 Krag as I recall. I have one put up for a conversion, one day....

xausaI have owned various straight pulls, including a Ross .280, a Swiss 7.5X55 and a 6mm Lee Navy. They all suffer from one problem: lack of primary extraction. This is unimportant using clean ammunition with mild loads, but anything which can make a fired case reluctant to extract can cause problems, as the Canadians learned on World War I.
The Mauser system, with a roughly 9/1 mechanical advantage and a substantial leverage provided by the length of the bolt handle is unsurpassed in primary extraction.

L. RivardMore kudos for the K-31. Extreamly accurate rifles. The only target I ever saved was shot with one, 10 shots, benchrest, iron sights, 100 yards, .695" group all in the 10 ring. Had the match director sign it and had it framed. I still have the rifle, it will be one of the last to go.

Norway_Moose_hunterThanks for the information.
Hm, the K31, and also the 1911 model, are very cool rifles, and very accurate from what I read.
Iron sights, short range hunting, mild loads....Hmm. Interesting tool.
Have a good day.
