ACGG 2023 Rifle
The photos are of the American Custom Gun Guilds' 2023 rifle which will be auctioned at the 2023 DSC Exhibition. The rifle is based on a Fraser reproduction action made by Steve Earle. The Krieger barrel is chambered in .303 British, and the barrel profiling was done by Glenn Fewless. Stock work is by Dan Rossiter, and engraving was done by Chris Rossiter. The next step is metal finishing, color case hardening and bluing, which I will perform. Photos taken in my shop before disassembling for metal finishing. Look for additional photos as work is completed.

Stunning work by all!
Chris Rossiter is an incredible talent. Hard to believe he's only a few years into engraving. Of course the entire family seems to have been born with the gunmaking gene.
Look forward to seeing your metal finishing Roger!

Talk about falling block fever. That one gets the temp. up there.
What a fine companion that one would be out there still hunting for whitetail.

Reluctant to single anyone out, but that rose and scroll is really good!

An amazing rifle! I agree that it would make a fine stalking rifle for the discerning hunter.

On the plains of hesitation lie the bleached bones of ten thousand, who on the dawn of victory lay down their weary heads resting, and there resting, died.

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch...
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!

Just thought you all should know that 55% of the selling price of the rifle goes directly try to DSC. This amounts to a substantial donation from the ACGG to DSC. The remainder goes to the Guild for operating capital. The makers get everyone's gratitude but little else.

Was the pattern on top of the barrel cut by hand or some type of machining process.

The pattern on the top of the rib, which is integral to the barrel, was done in a CNC mill

Thanks for the many compliments. Here's the rifle after the action has been French Greyed and the remainder rust blued.

Is there a cheek piece on the other side? Just curious. This really makes me want to purchase an action and have one together.

No cheekpiece. Really not needed. As for the action, I cannot say enough superlative things about it. All the parts are precision machined steel, very closely fitted, and wonderfully polished. This is one action that requires ZERO gunsmithing. Steve Earle does an incredible job and the price is a bargain.

The French Grey looks great, but I thought it was getting color cased.

You're right. The action was made from annealed 8620 steel & it was color case hardened to harden it. Unfortunately, the colors were not uniformly good, so the decision was made to remove the colors.

Makes sense, it just might look better French greyed anyway.
