devere9.3x62 barrel dimensions
for those who have barreled a pre-64 M70 action with a 9.3x62, what barrel dimensions did you use: length and muzzle diam. and what over-all weight of the rifle did you end up without mount, rings & scope? thank you.

TimanA #3 sporter contour barrel 24" in length fitted to your Model 70 action is going to run right around 6lbs.
Then depending on what you do for a stock a carbon McMillan adds 1lb 10oz.
A wood stock can vari quite a bit depending on design, wood density and wood species.
2lbs to 3-1/2 pounds will cover most wood stocks.
Figure 7-1/2 to 9-1/2 pounds depending on overall rifle design.

dpcdI've done lots of them using either an original M70 contour with the rear sight boss, or the original Oberndorf contour.
Weight is as indicated above.
Of courser, I only use Douglas barrels. In which their #3 is fine if you want plain contour.

AtkinsonNO. 3 or 4 depending on your tastes, a #4 gives a little more weight to a caliber that has substantial recoil with max handloads..a 285 t0 300 gr. bullets at 2400 to 2500 fps in a good strong rifle action like a mauser or Win 70 and depending on your recoil tolerances..I, personaly would opt for a #3 on the light side, because it packs easier..
If I was using a finished stock being rebarrled I have the original barrel copied to fit the inletting, otherwise I get a slightly larger barrel and inlet it, easy to take out wood but hell to put it back, however that can be done to, it just time consuming and costly...
