Bill/OregonA proper recoil pad
I see a lot of reference to the Silvers pads on custom guns. But as far as I can tell, all these do is duplicate the look of a pre-war London pad. They apparently are almost worthless for absorbing recoil. Does anyone make a pad with that familiar red/orange hue that actual soaks up the punch?

Charles_HelmPachmayr makes a red one.

Chuck NelsonSo does NECG.
I also have had a few of the Pachmayrs but I'm going to try the NECG pad next time.

AtkinsonI like the Silvers, Winchester solid pad, and the Galzan pads mostly because they are easier to cover and look nicer when leather covered ..:
Also I'm a nostalgic and like the English traditional bolt guns.
Guess I have fallen for looks over function, but so be it!! :shocker

HomerOzG'Day Fella's,
Unfortunately, I'm a bit recoil sensitive (more spinal injuries than fingers), so on most of my own rifles, I have fitted standard Pachmayr Decelerator pads.
On very light and or hard recoiling rifles, I fit the very soft Pachmayr XLT recoil pad. If I remember correctly, this latter R/pad is designed as a shotgun Trap type pad, so when viewed from the side, the center/middle of the pad, is concave in shape. Because of this, it requires some amount of correct fitting on most C/fire rifles, prior to grinding and hand finishing!
I have one of these XLT pads on my Rem model 673 in .350 Rem Mag rifle (just over 6 pound). I reload 250grn Woodleigh SN-PP bullets at a M/velocity of 2525fps, so its a bit of a hand full off the bench! But that XLT pad helps me a lot!!!
Hope that helps
Doh!
