Dale Goens .270
This is the first custom rifle I had built, over 25 years ago.....I just happened to buy a book called "The Gun Digest Review of CUSTOM GUNS.....and I havent been the same since!! I contacted, Goens, Fisher, Biesen, Dowtin, and a few other lessor named custom makers, and Dale's projected completion time was the quickest, so I went that route...and very happy I did.
I've had a number of rifles built since that time, but you know what they say That first one is always special.

Keep working on the photos... something tells me we we are going to like the final results!

On the plains of hesitation lie the bleached bones of ten thousand, who on the dawn of victory lay down their weary heads resting, and there resting, died.

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch...
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!
- Rudyard Kipling

Really nice. Can't wait to see what you come up with next.

If that is a model 70, where did that bottom metal come from?

The bottom metal was supplied by Mr.Goens. I remember paying $150 for it, of course that was back in the early 80's.

I had two of Dales rifles at one time. A 270 on a Mod 70 and a 375 on an FN.

I never could make the 375 shoot but the 270 was truly one of the most accurate I have seen even with factory ammo. One reason was I shot his open and thinner wristed stocks better.

After sending a letter to him and speaking to him I think that much of the metal work was done by others on his rifles. Not saying he COULD not do it. But more that his art and passion was the wood. Mine had the one piece Blackburn style bottom metal.

I dont have a pic here but I do have some. I also have the names of some of the metalsmiths he worked with. Not relevant to this post though.

I would never use my 270 even though Dale made these to be used in the field, and after I sold the 375 I had several inquiries from folks wanting the 270 and I went ahead and sold it. I had looked for another big bore on a Winchester but it never materialized. If it had I would likely still have the 270 and the Winny big bore of Dales rifles.

Truly my favorite and I may yet have a safe sale and go shopping !!
