trouthunterdjSisk Rifles Thoughts???
Hello all,
I am thinking of having Charlie Sisk build me a "do everything" rifle. I made the mistake of spending 2 hours on the phone with him. His knowledge was only surpassed by his kindness and wanting to help me. I am thinking of building a 270 or 308 on a Remington, Win 70 or Howa.
Any thoughts or reviews of Sisk rifles would be appreciated. Thanks guys

Texas KillartistSisk gets good reviews and has some serious cartridge testing equipment. If I were going to have a synthetic rifle built, I would strongly consider him.
As for a 'do everything' rifle, why limit yourself to a 270 or 308 ? Great cartridges no doubt, but do everything ?

trouthunterdjAfter talking with Charlie, he suggest those rounds. I'm not a fan of recoil and can't shoot magnums well at all. I know my limits. I have bought magnums and larger rounds but they have gone "down the road".

BiebsI've got mine available in 9.3 BS (Barsness-Sisk, a 9.3 in a 350 Rem Mag case) and 9.3 Sisk (a 9.3 Ultramag) for $1,995 instead of $5,600! :-)

trouthunterdjWow Biebs!!! Great deal!! Wish I needed a 9.3.

458WinCharlie built a 375 Ruger on an FN Mauser that is a favorite rifles of my guides, hunters and myself.
He is honest, knowledgeable and a solid rifle builder.

EdodA bunch of years ago, Charlie made a .308 Win for me based on a Remington 700 Titanium action. I have been very happy with the rifle and was very happy with the service that Sisk Rifles provided. The rifle is very light, accurate and good looking for a synthetic stocked gun. I have found it to be a "just about do anything rifle." I have no trouble strongly recommending his work.

I can't say enough about my .300 Win Charlie built for me. Extremely accurate and just an absolutely solid gun. Charlie builds great rifles.

Jim HundleyI have a rifle by Sisk purchased in 1999. Very accurate as promised. Of course the prices have increased over the years. Don't know what they cost now. I am satisfied with mine, but for the money I would do some shopping. There is a like new used rifle on his site for $5000+, much like mine. For that money, I would do a bunch of research! Maybe a custom action, bottom metal, etc.
Charlie is very knowledgable and a good guy. It just depends on what you want.

BoxheadMy opinion, and that is all it is, is that he has priced himself beyond what others can deliver of equal quality. I would give Tip Burns in Canyon Lake a call, one with little fame, and know that he will deliver a rifle as specified in the time and price he committed. You will be a happy camper as have I.

LJSTake a look at the Sisk model 70 270 for $2900 at Cabela's Buda store. It came directly from Sisk so no one messed with it. Half price leaves you money to get a top notch scope for it with money left over.

BiebsLou, mine are only $1,995! I bought a bunch of rifles from Charlie that he made for display at shows, loaners for gun writers, etc. These are the last 2 I have. They'd be $5,600 of ordered.

LJSBiebs, no doubt yours are steals if you can live with the calibers. I suggested this one since a 270 or 308 was being considered. I wish you would sell the red stocked one. I keep looking at it thinking how perfect it would be for elk.

BiebsYes, I'd load a 250gr Accubond for a long-range Elk machine!

Lee WoiteshekI still twitch at night over your .378 Sisk Weatherby. Wish there was I way I could make it happen.

BiebsLee, that's up in Alaska now, where it will do well on Moose and Brownies.
06 October 2013, 01:56
BiebsHere's the 2 I have. The top is the 9.3/350- Rem Mag, or 9.3 Barsness-Sisk. The bottom one is the 9.3/8mm Rem Mag, or 9.3 Sisk, or 9.3 Ultramag.

mlfgunsWith due respect to everyone. I would take LJS's advise and get the Win. Model 70 in .270.
Any one looking for stout calibers, Biebs rifles are a steal. It's a no brainer, if any one is in the market buy them and rationalize them later.
Gunsmith's come in different colors in their quality of output, experience, clientele etc.... Charlie Sisk rifles are worth every penny he asks for. We demand good pay for whatever our profession is, why shouldn't he expect the same.
There are gunsmiths that charge 14k to 18k for a synthetic rifle and get it with a bonus of a 3 year waiting period! Granted used is always cheaper. If you buy used get fitted by Charlie and have the rifle altered to your dimensions. It is money well spent. Best of luck to you.
Charles

trouthunterdjThanks for the advice. I'll let you know what I think of Mr. Sisk's rifles by next week.
